The students were able to showcase their learning in music class. My favorite part was watching the last song of the 5th grade performance (at 29:30 minute mark). In the first minute, students are performing “Carol of the Bells” using soprano, alto, and bass xylophones; soprano and alto metallophones; glockenspiels; triangles; and a marimba. Students learned their parts from sheet music- they were able to read all the rhythms and pitches performed. Watch as students synthesize their learning while following my conducting patterns. In the closing minutes, students sing “Carol of the Bells” in two part harmony with a live accompanist. Students learned more than vocal technique. Students are listening and singing with dynamics (loud/soft), varied tempo (fast/slow), repeats, and fermatas (not rhythmic, music watch the conductor).
